In a candid new interview, Grammy-winning artist Lizzo is reflecting on the challenges she’s faced with public backlash and “cancel culture” throughout her career. The 37-year-old “Truth Hurts” singer spoke honestly about her experiences on a recent episode of “Therapuss,” sharing how repeated criticism has impacted her personally and professionally.

Learning From Backlash

Lizzo admitted, “I’ve been canceled a lot. I shouldn’t say I’ve been canceled, because I’m still going, but I’ve gotten backlash a lot. Literally every single time I’ve received backlash I use it as a growing and learning lesson.” Her resilience in the face of controversy is inspiring, as she continues to use criticism as an opportunity for growth rather than letting it define her.

Facing Controversy

If you’ve followed Lizzo’s journey, you’ll remember the high-profile lawsuits filed against her in 2023 by former dancers and a stylist, alleging harassment and a hostile work environment. Lizzo has firmly denied these accusations, stating in a 2024 interview that she “did nothing wrong.”

The Oprah Moment That Hurt

Lizzo also recalled her first major experience with public backlash in 2019, when her hit “Good As Hell” was featured in a Weight Watchers commercial after Oprah Winfrey acquired the company. She was initially thrilled, saying, “Oprah wants to use your song, I lost my mind. I was like, ‘Oh my god, Oprah knows who I am!’” However, the excitement quickly turned to heartbreak when fans accused her of promoting eating disorders. “It broke my heart. It truly broke my heart,” Lizzo shared.

Moving Forward

Despite the setbacks, Lizzo remains committed to her music and her message of self-love and empowerment. Just last month, she opened up about her weight loss journey, continuing to connect with fans through honesty and vulnerability.
